How about smarter than a 1st grader? We would hope than our educational system would continue to achieve a high enough standard that our teachers would be smarter than their 1st graders. And that comparison can not even appreciate the divide between our knowledge and the infinite wisdom of God.
So, where do I go to find out about God? I don't know what your answer will be, but no matter what grade equivalent I find myself in, I will go to Him.
I do know many people who don't go to Him ...or if they say they do, it is not the God of the Bible. Why do I say that? I know there are many people who don't believe the Bible is true. They may say they believe part of the Bible is true ...but, how can they decide? What sort of discretion does one use in deciding what part they believe to be true, if not the whole?
The people in the Bible experienced God. But, we can't just go on our limited experiences ...though personal and intimate experiences are much a part of our lives. I am going to list some experiences, and you can suppose how one thing can lead to another.
Scenario #1: You are in deep debt. God puts $300,000 in your checking account, you are not only debt-free, but you feel you are prospering. You feel good and that God loves you.
Scenario #2: Same as scenario #1, though you invest the money unwisely, your marriage falls apart as a result of the short celebration followed by an angry blame-game, and you feel life has never been worse.
Scenario #3: For a month now, there has been an advertisement for the new store in the area ...there is 90% off everything until midnight tonight. You get so excited about all the changes you are going to make with your new purchases, that you lose track of time ...busying yourself with getting rid of your old things and making room for the new. You get there 3 minutes after midnight. You see all the people leaving the store with all those great generous offers ...and offering their own praise of how great the proprietors are. You have renewed hope, and ask to talk with those highly praised proprietors. But, you are told, "Sorry, but it is now 5 minutes past midnight."
Scenario #4: You are at the top of your class in Science. You think your teacher is really smart, but you feel God is even smarter ...He is like a really smart scientist. He is so smart, it is beyond imagination what could be comprehended. In fact, it could get a little scary ...not knowing what a scientist is up to.
In all of the scenarios, it has lots to do with perspective. And if we don't understand, nor have all the information ...we may view things differently than someone else who has some information. That is, unless someone has all the information grouped together in one place.
But, what if we are not concerned with all the information, or don't trust all the information. Maybe we are happy with what little information we have ...with only those bits or pieces that satisfy us.
There always seems to be bits and pieces we don't like ....but perhaps that's because we never have the full information, or perhaps it's just our personal struggle with growth. We do have an entire volume of information, called the Bible ...and that should suffice. And we have to accept the fact that there is a time the store will close.
